U.S. News and World Report has ranked Pittsburg State University in its top tier and highest among the state’s three regional universities in its 2013 Best Midwest Regional Universities list. The 12-state Midwest region includes Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

“We are pleased to be recognized as a top-tier university by U.S. News for the second year in a row,” said Dr. Bill Ivy, associate vice president for enrollment management and student success. “This recognition reflects the achievement of our students, the quality and commitment of our faculty and staff and the loyalty of our alumni. Without all three, we could not have achieved this ranking.”

In compiling its rankings for regional universities, U.S. News considers “assessment by administrators at peer institutions (25 percent), retention of students (25 percent), faculty resources (20 percent), student selectivity (15 percent), financial resources (10 percent), and alumni giving (5 percent).”

On its website, U.S. News writes that it compiles the annual list to help students and families find the “best academic value for their money.”

Earlier this year, PSU was named to the Princeton Review’s Best in the Midwest list.
