Most Pittsburg State University students passing through the Oval Monday couldn’t help but stop to pet the three friendly dogs that were so eager to greet them. The students responsible for the dogs said the students’ reaction proved their point: that pets are a great stress reliever.

The students, who were members of Gorillas in Your Midst, a peer health education group, teamed up with the Southeast Kansas Humane Society to bring the dogs to campus to launch Mental Health Week.

When students stopped to pet the dogs, they could also pick up a free stress ball or removable tattoos, as well as information on a variety of mental health issues including sleep, nutrition, depression, suicide prevention, stress reduction, counseling, exercise, and relaxation techniques.
