International students learn about American pumpkin carving tradition

October 14, 2013 1:15PM

International students at Pittsburg State University will have an opportunity to join their American friends in testing their skills at the tradition of pumpkin carving during the PITT Pal Fall Fiesta on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The event, which includes activities such as dress-up pictures, snacks and games, runs from 4-6 p.m. at the east pavilion in Gorilla Village just east of Carnie Smith Stadium.

Persons wishing to join in the pumpkin carving should bring their own pumpkin or take $5 to the Office of International Programs and Services, 118 Whitesitt Hall, in advance.

Organizers said the event allows international students to experience a significant American cultural tradition alongside their American friends. It is just one of numerous activities organized each year by PITT Pals, a group that works to assist new international students with their transition to the university and the campus.

The PITT Pal Fall Fiesta is co-sponsored by the PSU International Student Association. For information about PITT Pals or the Fall Fiesta, call Brenda Hawkins in the Office of International Programs and Services at 620-235-4446.
