Wind Ensemble, Symphony strings present holiday concert

December 07, 2011 12:00AM

Cookies, hot apple cider and Christmas carols are almost guaranteed to get even the grumpiest Grinch in a holiday mood. The PSU Wind Ensemble and the strings section of the Southeast Kansas Symphony will share all three with the public at their annual free Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 4. The concert takes place at 2 p.m. in Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium.

The first half of the program will be performed by the PSU Wind Ensemble and will be a traditional band concert with selections by de Meij, Strauss, Barnes, and Press.

Members of the Southeast Kansas Symphony string section will join the Wind Ensemble for the second half of the concert to perform music for the holidays. Two PSU voice faculty, Patrick Howle and Lisa Gerstenkorn, will perform “O Holy Night” and will lead the audience in singing Christmas carols.

Following the concert, the audience is invited to join the performers in the lobby for hot apple cider, cookies and still more Christmas carols.
