The Pittsburg State University Choirs, in collaboration with area instrumentalists, will present “Psalmfest III” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, in the sanctuary of Pittsburg’s First United Methodist Church, at Fifth & Pine streets. The performance is under the direction of Susan Marchant, Ph.D., a member of the PSU Department of Music faculty.
This year’s event follows a general plan of two previous Psalmfest concerts in 2002 and 2006, Marchant said.
“This program is a celebration of the rich and glorious tradition of setting Psalm texts to music,” Marchant said.
The pieces selected for the program were drawn from six centuries of choral literature and include works by George Frideric Handel, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Antonin Dvorak and others.
“This diversity of musical styles and texts will be underscored by a diversity of performing forces, from a cappella chamber ensembles through the full resources of a 100-voice choir,” Marchant said.
The free performance is open to the public. A free-will offering will be received.
