May 11, 2011 12:00AM

Pittsburg State University has released the names of incoming students for the fall 2011 semester who have been accepted into the University's Honors College.

"We are extremely excited about this group of students," said Dr. Craig Fuchs, director of the Honors College. "They have already distinguished themselves academically and personally and we expect great things of them as they begin their university careers at Pittsburg State."

To be considered for admission to the Honors College, incoming freshmen students must have graduated from an accredited high school and have an ACT composite score of 28 or higher or a SAT composite score of 1240 or higher. Also, they must have completed the pre-college curriculum with at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Only a limited number of students are selected from the pool of applicants each year. Students selected for the Honors College receive scholarship assistance in the form of Presidential Awards (the university's top scholarship award), University Awards or Crimson and Gold Academic Achievement Awards. In addition, students receiving Presidential and University awards receive a study-abroad stipend.

The Honors College was created to provide a more meaningful educational experience for a small, select group of superior students. The Honors College curriculum at the freshman-sophomore level is designed to offer intellectually stimulating general education courses. At the junior-senior level, Honors College students become integrated into the Departmental Academic Honors program.
