PSU celebrates Earth Week

In preparation for the 41st celebration of Earth Day on Friday, April 22, the University Sustainability Committee and a number of student groups have come together to sponsor a week of events that highlight sustainability.
Saturday, April 16
To kick off Earth Week, a 12-mile bike ride to the Nature Reserve and back will begin at 9:30 a.m. The ride starts at Gorilla Village, where participants can come early to sign up. Refreshments will be served at the Reserve. The ride is sponsored by Nature Reach and the International Student Association. Also on Saturday, a highway cleanup sponsored by the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) will be held beginning at 9 a.m. The cleanup will start at the four-way stop at Highways 400 and 69 south of Pittsburg.
Monday, April 18
Sponsored by the Student Activities Council, a "Go For the Green Game Show" will be held at 6 p.m. in the U-Club. Sodexo will also begin giving away seedlings grown in coffee grounds on Monday at Jazzman's Café.
Tuesday, April 19
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the RHA will host a water bottle challenge on the Oval, asking students to try to taste the difference between bottled, tap and filtered water. Winners will be entered into a drawing for prizes. At 3 p.m., the Faculty Association will host an information session on sustainability at McPherson Hall.
Thursday, April 21
This is a busy day! It begins with Science Day for area high schoolers, featuring Biology Bowl, Chemistry Capers, and Physics Events. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the student organization Green Gorillas will host a community fair on the Oval with booths from student organizations and area businesses that support green initiatives. Additionally, Sodexo will host a Pittsburg Farmer's Market on the Oval from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Friday, April 22
Nature Reach will host a free program on raptors at 12:30 p.m. in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom. From 5-7 p.m., the International Student Association will offer its second annual Night Market with food and cultural items from a variety of different countries. And at 7 p.m., the Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations as well as the Student Activities Council will show a free outdoor movie "Avatar" on the Jungletron.
Throughout the week, Sodexo will be offering meals in the Student Center and Gibson Dining Hall using locally grown foods. They will also offer 25-cent refills on drinks with the "Bring Your Own Mug" campaign.
