Pittsburg State University will observe Veterans Day with a special 2 p.m. ceremony at the PSU Veterans Memorial at 1909 S. Rouse. In addition to the installation of 22 new pavers honoring veterans, the university will dedicate the new black granite Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. (Story and video) In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the National Guard Armory/Student Recreation Center.
Music for the ceremony, which will include a wreath-laying by the American legion Betty Lou Vilmer Post 394, will be provide by the PSU Brass Quintet and Joel Wren of the Great Highland Bagpipes. The Chapter 912, VVA Rifle Squad from Ottawa, Kan., will render a gun salute.
PSU President Steve Scott will deliver brief remarks and Vietnam veteran Jim Bishop will discuss the effort to recreate the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in stone.
