ess students preparing for the job hunt that awaits will have a chance to make headway next week during the 7th annual Meet the Firms Day.

Presented by Pittsburg State's College of Business in conjunction with the Office of Career Services, Meet the Firms Day is essentially a career fair that invites Financial Information students to meet companies offering jobs in their areas of study. The event will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, at the Wilkinson Alumni Center.

This year, more firms are expected to attend than last, including companies such as KPMG, Connolly, Inc., BKD, LLP., Conway Truckload, Koch Industries, Wal-Mart, and Leggett and Platt.

"You don't hear a lot about the economy picking up, but when I'm comparing on-campus interviews to last year, there's a significant difference," said David Hogard, assistant director of Career Services. "Some of these companies are coming back to campus, and that's a good sign."

Academic areas that benefit from Meet the Firms Day include accounting; information systems majors with an emphasis in either system design or information assurance and computer security; fraud examination minors; internal audit minors; Internal Audit Education Partnership certification candidates; and MBAs with a concentration in accounting.

"By having this career fair early in the academic year, it allows students the opportunity to secure an internship or a full-time position early," said Becky Casey, chairwoman of the Department of Accounting and Computer Information Systems. "It takes the pressure off and allows them to focus on their final year of study."
