ming college freshmen from all parts of the country will gather at Pittsburg State University this month to take part in the Office of Admission's Pitt CARES (Campus Advisement, Registration, and Enrollment Services) program.

Offered each summer, the orientation program features eight sessions throughout the month of June, welcoming students and educating them on the transition to college life in general and at Pittsburg State in particular. The CARES sessions will welcome nearly 1,000 students in total this month. Although most of the sessions are full, two final sessions planned for June 28 and 30 still have openings.

"This is one of the most important things we do to ensure our new students are ready to begin their college career," said Jon Bartlow, assistant director of admission. "It makes our new students aware of all the wonderful resources available to them, and helps their parents make a smooth transition, as well."

Themed "Operation Success," the CARES sessions begin Monday, June 7, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom. Sessions run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with students learning about everything from financial aid and student services to enrollment. Parents - approximately 1,200 of them will attend a session with their child this month - also have an opportunity to listen to school administrators discuss campus safety, opportunities for students to travel internationally, and college affordability. Students also have time to tour campus and the residence halls.
