When the chemistry works
“Sometimes people are like chemicals,” says Dr. Chuck Blatchley, Chair of the PSU Chemistry department, “you bring them together and special things happen.”
This year it has happened with the PSU Chemistry Club, whose efforts at public service have been recognized by becoming finalist for the ChemLuminary Award, which is given by the American Chemical Society (ACS) for the greatest community involvement.
“I am especially proud of all the students who made it a grand and successful event,” said Dr. Bipin Shah.
The event to which Dr. Shah refers was a demonstration of Chemistry magic for children at various places throughout the area.
Dr. Irene Zegar who led the effort was enthusiastic about being involved.
“I think special thanks are due to Dr. Khamis Siam,” said Dr. Zegar. “He supervised all the activities and participated with all his vigor.”
The contest will be continued in Philadelphia this August with a poster contest.
The winner of the award will be chosen around the time school starts. |
