Demand for engraved granite pavers continues

Demand for engraved granite pavers at the Pittsburg State University Veterans Memorial continues to be strong, according to university officials. To meet that demand, the paver area at the memorial has been expanded for a second time. The new pavers will be installed on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Dr. James AuBuchon, PSU vice president for university advancement, said the demand for pavers to honor veterans and current members of the military has been greater that anyone anticipated.

More than 2,100 engraved granite pavers have already been installed in the memorial, beginning first with the Brock Family Amphitheater plaza. When that area was filled, a second paver display area, the Guy and Claire Sutherland Entrance Plaza was created just south of the flag entry rampart. That area is already almost full. The new paver area is an expansion of the Sutherland Entrance Plaza.

The pavers honor a wide range of service men and women, ranging from a Civil War veteran to soldiers now serving in the military.

AuBuchon said the cost of the pavers will increase after the next installation to cover the costs associated with expanding the Sutherland Entrance Plaza and because of the increasing cost of the granite. Pavers purchased by Sept. 9. 2005, will be installed and ready for dedication on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2005. Pavers purchased by Sept. 9, can be purchased at the current price of $125 for an 8-inch by 8-inch paver and $250 for a 12-inch by 12-inch paver. After Sept. 9, paver costs will increase to $150 and $300 respectively.
