Domain names are the naming conventions used to identify Internet locations (i.e. www.pittstate.edu, www.yahoo.com, www.education.org ). The current status of issuing Domain names with the suffix edu has now been identified as one xxx.pittstate.edu per institution. Prefixes to the pittstate.edu are now delegated to the specific educational institution that has the domain name. This means that names such as education.pittstate.edu are to be managed and issued by the primary naming agent of www.pittstate.edu.
To expedite and authorize new secondary domain names from the primary domain name that these request be submitted to the IT Council for approval. Upon approval of the domain the requesting department or campus organization will be notified by the IT Council. Upon disapproval the requesting department or campus organization will be notified with the option to request a meeting with the IT Council to state their case. Pittsburg domain names are only available to PSU departments, officially recognized organizations and initiatives.
