Administrative Accounts/Logins
Administrative logins at PSU are used by staff to perform various tasks on the administrative computer system. Most teaching faculty will not need an administrative login. Most departmental secretaries, as well as individuals working in support departments (business office, human resource services, financial aid, admissions, housing, etc.) will need an administrative login. If you are unsure whether you need a login/account set up, please check with your director or chair, or contact Kathy Sanley at sanley@pittstate.edu or extension 4165.
The ability to login to an administrative account is linked to a specific computer. When you apply for an administrative account you should be ready to supply the network IP address of the computer you will be using.
You will need to apply for an administrative login. Applications may be picked up from the OIS Service Desk - 109 Whitesitt. The application must be signed, have the IP address for the computer you will be using and departmental authorization or it will not be processed. The application should be returned to OIS, where the account will take 2 – 3 days to be created. When you return to pick up your account information, please bring a photo ID. Account information will not be released without the proper identification.
You will need to use a Secure Shell (SSH) client to gain access to the administrative system. The administrative system is not accessible by a telnet application. SSH software should already be installed on most administrative workstations. If you need SSH software see the computer tech assigned to your area.

PC
1. Go to the Start Menu
2. Click on ‘Programs’
3. Click on ‘Command Prompt’
4. Type in ‘ipconfig /all’
5. Look for IP Address
Logging on and off
You must login using all lower case letters (including password), but once you get logged in please turn your CAPS LOCK KEY ON and work in all uppercase letters. Please log off the computer when you are finished working, especially when you leave at the end of the day.
Troubleshooting Problems with Administrative Accounts
1. Bad Password
The password is either mistyped (login must be all lowercase letters).
The password is no longer valid.
2. Trying to log in somewhere other than designated IP address/addresses.
If this is the case, a message will be received after attempting to log in stating that you are not allowed to login from (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) the IP address. Please record these numbers and send them to OIS via campus mail or email. This is all for security reasons.
You can only log in from the workstation designated on the application form.
3. No valid shell account
Also as part of the security, users are given an initial “account” that becomes the shell under which they operate. The shell account provides a menu of information or tasks to be access. If you are able to log into the program, but no menu or options are presented you may need to have your shell defined. Contact Kathy Sanley at sanley@pittstate.edu or extension 4165.
