Description
The course is designed to introduce social work students to basic social practice looking at social issues confronting individuals living in Costa Rica. Students will participate in a service learning opportunity within the San Jose community. Students will work in a group to complete a project in the San Jose area in order to create a positive and lasting impact in the community. International Studies Abroad will provide in-country support in Costa Rica including arranging housing with host familes (all families speak some English, so Spanish is not required but would be helpful), facilitating volunteer efforts, and providing general on-site coordination support. The program also includes an overnight excursion to Tamarindo on the north west Pacific coast.
