PSU Study Abroad Stipends

PSU maintains a limited fund to assist current full-time PSU students participating in our study abroad programs. If you are going on a PSU sponsored group study program your faculty sponsor will apply for the group. Make sure you are communicating with your faculty sponsor about your need.

If you are going on an individual study abroad program use the Step 1 Application for Individual Study Abroad to apply and submit it to the Study Abroad Coordinator in International Programs office at 118 Whitesitt Hall. This application is due by October 1st for Spring study abroad and March 1st for Summer and Fall study abroad.

Students approved for studying abroad for a semester are usually eligible to use their fulll FAFSA federal financial assistance towards their study abroad experience. Students taking at least 6 credits in the summer my be eligible to use FASFA federal financial assistance during the summer.

Kansas Board of Regents Fellowship Fund for Graduate Students

James B. Pearson Fellowship Fund: Fellowship for Kansas residents in an accredited graduate program at a Kansas college or university in a field related to foreign affairs.

US Government Scholarships

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships
A government funded program that aids Pell-eligible students with financial need for study abroad.

Fulbright Student Program

The program is designed for graduating seniors in any academic field. It is also intended for graduate students working on a Master's degree or a Ph.D. Grants are from six to 12 months with opportunities to study in all parts of the world.

Boren Awards

This program provides unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals

A full year scholarship program in Germany sponsored by the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag.

Other Government Scholarships

Study & Internship Program in Germany

A full year program in which students first study at German universities, then have a 6 month hands-on internship.

George J. Mitchell Scholarship

The Mitchell Scholarship is a highly competitive national fellowship awarded to 12 US college graduates annually for a year of postgraduate study on the island of Ireland, both in the Republic and in Northern Ireland.

Bridging Scholarship for Japan

Assists students to study in Japan for students participating in semester- or year-long study-abroad programs in Japan in Spring. Deadline at the beginning of October.

UNESCO Laura W. Bush Traveling Fellowship

The Fellowship provides funding for a short term projects in a foreign country related to the mandate of UNESCO- using education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and/or communication and information to build strong ties among nations.

Private Scholarships

IIE programs -- IIE has a funding search that searches scholarships, grants, and fellowships specific to your study abroad experience

The Fund for Education Abroad funds up to ten $1000 scholarships each year for US citizens who plan to study abroad for at least 4 weeks on academically rigrous programs.

DiversityAbroad.com -- DiversityAbroad.com has partnered with several organizations to offer study abroad grants and scholarships.

DAAD has some scholarships for programs in Germany. As part of DAAD, there is a specific scholarship program through DAAD called RISE for science and engineering students interested in doing research with German PhD students.

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

The Rotary Foundation issues grants regionally to students who are affiliated or sponsored by a rotary member or chapter.

The Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society has $1000 scholarships specific to study abroad. This is one of very few that can be used for short term programs.

The Go! Overseas folks have $1000 scholarships that can be used on any length program.

BUTEX offers 500£ scholarships to students studying for a semester or year in England.

The Frank Huntington Beebe Fund for Musicians is a fellowship opportunity for young musicians who wish to pursue advanced music study and performance abroad.

Members of Sigma Tau Delta: The International English Honor Society may be eligible for several scholarship opportunities through the honor society.

Kansas Paraguay Partners Special Merit Scholarship Fund:

One scholarship of $1,200 is available for the 2010-11 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2010.  The Special Merit Scholarship is available to students enrolled at any Kansas college or University that offers Paraguayan students instate tuition.
