Mission, Programs and Accreditation
The mission of the College of Education is to prepare competent, committed, caring professionals, provide service to the various communities of which we are a part, and expand the body of knowledge through research and dissemination activities. The programs of the College are designed:
- to provide professional curricula for the preparation of teachers, administrators, various school services, Psychologists, Counselors, and Recreationists;
- to offer undergraduate work leading to the baccalaureate degree with majors in early childhood/late childhood K-6, physical education, psychology, and recreation;
- to offer graduate work for elementary and secondary teachers; school and college service personnel; administrators; psychologists; counselors; and recreational therapists. The College of Education is also organized to provide professional services to schools and to other educational and social agencies. An important role is to encourage and to conduct educational research.
Pittsburg State University is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and both undergraduate and graduate preparation programs for teaching and school service positions are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. The Clinical Psychology program is accredited by the Masters of Psychology Accreditation Council. |
