In open forums on March 2 and March 3, 2010, President Steve Scott spoke with the university community about his plan to add a sustainability goal to the university's strategic plan. [ view slides | view video ]
"It is vitally important to have participation across campus in the strategic planning process," Scott said. "That's especially true when we consider adding a goal such as sustainability."
The president outlined a new goal that calls for the university to "institutionalize environmental sustainability into all university activities including operations, teaching and learning, discovery and engagement," and to "enhance discovery and research."
The new sustainability goal will be added to five other goals already in place as part of the university's strategic plan.
Plans call for a draft planning document, including the new sustainability goal, to circulate for comment and input in March and April, with a final draft to be considered by the Strategic Planning Council in May.

One of President Steve Scott's major initiatives in his first year was to reopen the university's strategic planning process. The Strategic Planning Council is managing that process, which has included soliciting input from all divisions across campus, holding open forums and developing a draft plan for consideration and input during the spring 2010 semester. A final plan is to be developed by May 2010.
