Can I take IELTS instead of TOEFL?
Yes, we accept either TOEFL or IELTS for admission.
What is the minimum TOEFL/IELTS score required for undergraduate admission?
The minimum TOEFL score for undergraduate admission is 68 (internet based test). Overall band of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each band of the IELTS is required.
What is the minimum TOEFL/IELTS score required for graduate admission?
The minimum TOEFL score for most of the graduate programs is 68 (internet based test). Some areas of graduate study may require a higher TOEFL score. An overall band of 6.0 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each band of the IELTS is required. Some graduate programs also have higher IELTS requirements.
Is the TOEFL/IELTS requirement the same for all programs?

What if I do not pass TOEFL or IELTS?
If you fail to fulfill the requirement of English language proficiency, you will be required to enroll in our IEP (Intensive English Program). For more information on IEP Click here.

Can I take TOEFL/IELTS after admission?
Yes, but you will need to submit a passing test score before the first day of classes for the semester unless you intend to enroll in the Intensive English Program.
How do I send my TOEFL/IELTS scores to Pitt State?
Contact ETS and request that your score be sent to PSU electronically. Our university code is 6336. You do not need to enter a departmental code. Please visit their site for more information: www.ets.org/toefl.

Can I send an unofficial scorecard?
Yes, you can send us your unofficial scorecards for conditional admission and we will verify the test scores. Please ensure that the scorecard contains complete demographical information.
What is the score required to apply for Graduate Teaching Assistantships?
The student must have at least 22 in speaking section of TOEFL to apply for Graduate Teaching Assistantships.
