2014 Graduate School Research Awards

More than seventy undergraduate students participated in the PSU Research Colloquium on April 16, 2014 in the Overman Student Center Crimson and Gold Ballroom and Balkans Room. Twenty-five oral presentations and forty-two research posters were presented. There were projects from Economics, History, Writing Center, Communication, Sustainability, Society and Resource Management, Art, Mathematics, Physics, Nursing, Construction Management, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, Graphics & Imaging Technology, and Psychology. Awards were presented at the 2014 PSU Graduate School and Research Awards Banquet on April 24, 2014. An award was given for every five entries to graduate and undergraduate students for oral and poster presentation in each of the following categories: Category A: Science and Technology, Category B: Business, Education and Humanities, Category C: Creative Works and Category D: Literature Review Poster Presentations. Thank you to all the students who participated and faculty who mentored student research projects. Congratulations to the award winners:

Category A: Sean McCartney, Graduate Research Presentation 1st Place; Samantha Meneely, Graduate Research Poster 1st Place; Kalee Woody Undergraduate Research Presentation 1st Place; Samantha Young, Undergraduate Poster 1st Place, Kalee Woody, Undergraduate Research Poster 2nd Place; Rachel Miller, Emily Wilson, and Blaze Heckert tied for Undergraduate Research Poster 3rd Place.

Category B: Jordan Adams, Graduate Research Presentation 1st Place; Ben Loats, Undergraduate Research Presentation 1st Place; Matthew Gallagher & Andrea Ashbacher, Undergraduate Research Presentation 2nd Place; Katie Rennie, Kurston Zeiler & Carl Smith, Undergraduate Research Poster 1st Place

Faculty Awards

PSU faculty participate in a broad range of scholarly activity including basic research, applied research, development of best practices for teaching and learning and creative works to name a few. In order to recognize faculty who are engaged in outstanding scholarship and outstanding mentoring of students conducting research, the Outstanding Faculty Scholarship Award and Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award were presented at the PSU Graduate School and Research Awards Banquet on April 24, 2014. The nominees for the awards were Dr. David Hurford, Psychology & Counseling; Dr. Choong Lee, Management & Marketing; Dr. Sang-Heui Lee, Management & Marketing; Dr. Zoran Petrovic, Chemistry/KPRC; Dr. Ram Gupta, Chemistry; Dr. Kirstin Lawson, History; and Dr. Dilip Paul, Chemistry. The winner of the Outstanding Faculty Scholarship Award was Dr. Zoran Petrovic. The winner of the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award was Dr. Kirstin Lawson. Thank you to all the faculty who conduct scholarly activity that enriches the campus for our students!
