First Year Programs (FYP) focuses on helping students make a successful transition to PSU. This office participates in many programs throughout the year to share its mission with campus visitors. Additionally, admitted students and their families attending in the Pitt C.A.R.E.S. programs for freshmen or transfer students hosted by the Office of Admission will benefit from contributions make by FYP to the parent and advising portion of these initial transitions events.
Once on campus, freshmen will participate in both Gorilla Warm-up and Freshman Experience - programs developed to provide the resources needed to be successful at PSU. Transfer students may take Transfer Transitions - a one credit hour course that introduces students to PSU and the many services here to assist them.
Finally, FYP coordinates advising and enrollment for students who have not yet declared a major area of study. Initially combined with a transitions course, the Undeclared Program provides students with focused assignments and experiences designed to assist them in finding a major that will allow them to use their interests, strengths and skills to succeed in an academic program.
