Students making a successful transition to PSU are likely to have a support network that provides cheers, advice, and shoulders to lean on – even from miles away. PSU welcomes family participation in the transition experience. Beginning with parent and sibling programs during Pitt C.A.R.E.S. hosted by the office of admission, we are committed to assisting parents in making this life transition as well.
Parent Hot Line
The direct phone number to the First Year Programs (FYP) office is 620-235-4265 or you can call 1-800-854-7488, select option 4. We will work to provide additional information or a referral to the appropriate office or person on campus who can assist in resolving the issue of concern. We know that the first person a new student will call with a challenge is likely to be a family member who may not know the processes or programs available to assist the student. FYP will provide the information and assistance appropriate.
Freshman Adjustment Survey
During the first semester of the Freshman Year, FYP will send parents a First Semester Adjustment Survey. This survey, which parents administer to their student by asking a series of questions, will help the parent and the student assess how well the student is adjusting to this new, exciting and challenging experience. Parents and students with concerns are encouraged to make an appropriate contact on campus, which may begin with the FYP office.
