Not sure if you should have an open or closed file?

We polled the school districts at Teacher Interview Day 2013, and received the following results:

36% of employers prefer CLOSED references

2% of employers prefer OPEN references

62% of employers have no preference

Open vs. Confidential Recommendations

  • Open Recommendations are available for those candidates who wish to read their recommendation letters.  All letters of recommendation must be accompanied by the Open Recommendation Sheet.  The Open Recommendation Sheet MUST be signed by both the candidate and the reference writer.  We will not be able to add the letter to your file until these steps are completed.
  • Confidential Recommendations are available for those who choose to have a closed file, and not see their reference letters.  All confidential letters of recommendation must be accompanied by the Confidential Recommendation Sheet.  The Confidential Recommendation Sheet MUST be signed by both the candidate and the reference writer.  We will not be able to add the letter to your file until these steps are completed.  A confidential recommendation must be hand-delivered or mailed to our office by the reference writer.

Important...All Open and Closed Recommendation Letters

  • PLEASE SIGN your recommendation form before giving it to your reference.
  • If you do not sign your form, then we will not be able to add it to your file, and it will immensely slow down the process of updating your credential file.
  • Reference writers must also sign the bottom portion of the form.
