Community Parade Participant (non-student)

Fall 2015

Dear Potential Community Parade Participant:

We would be pleased to have you participate in Pittsburg State University’s Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 3, 2015. The theme is “Through the Decades.” Any thematic entries should revolve around characters, themes and stories of the theme (if possible).

On behalf of the PSU Homecoming Parade Committee, please be advised of the following parade procedures:

  1. Parade participants must have an application on file to be in the parade.  See registration form below.
  2. NOTHING is to be thrown from a motorized parade entry (for example: candy). This is an important safety issue since thrown items can cause injury to spectators. If you would like to hand out items, please have people walking with your entry to do this.
  3. If your entry will be decorated, please remember to use fire-retarding materials. A City of Pittsburg Fire Department inspection will be conducted prior to the parade. See Fire Safety Procedure link here:  Fire Safety.
  4. All entries are expected to be in “good taste.” Good taste is defined as that which the majority of Pittsburg citizens, children, and PSU students would agree is not offensive, vulgar, nor unpleasant. Advertisements are allowed provided they are in “good taste”.
  5. NO alcoholic beverages will be permitted on any parade entry. If any alcoholic beverage is found before the parade, the entry will be pulled from the lineup. If found during the parade, the entry will immediately be removed from the route.
  6. Your entry’s parade number should be picked up at your check-in location (20th & Broadway) the morning of the parade. (NOTE: As parade assignments are not made until the day prior to the parade, there is no need to contact us regarding your assigned location.) Please attach the number on the front, left hand side of your entry or have a lead person carry the number.
  7. 7. Line-up Check-In (IMPORTANT, PLEASE OBSERVE): When you arrive at 20th & Broadway, a volunteer will provide you your line-up number. You may then proceed down Broadway to your assigned number (numbers will be spray-chalked onto the street). Please have your entry in place by 8:30 a.m. The parade will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.
  8. The parade WILL NOT be canceled due to rain. A parade entry form may be found at the web address below and is due by Wednesday, September 23, 2015.

We hope that you will be a part of this PSU tradition. NOTE: YOU WILL RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION FROM ME VIA EMAIL OR PHONE CALL. PARADE ASSIGNMENTS ARE NOT MADE UNTIL THE DAY PRIOR TO THE PARADE.
