Each year PSU has several fun (and FREE) events at the beginning of the Fall semester.  This is a great chance for new students to get to know each other and the Pitt State culture.  It's also a wonderful opportunity for returning students to reconnect to the University.  Below are the events for 2016.

Monday, August 15 - Thursday, August 25

  • Intramural Sports NFL & College Pick'em - Join Pitt State IM Sports group on ESPN and make weekly picks for NFL & Colligate football games. The person with the most points at the end of the season will win an Intramural Championship shirt.  Contact Steven Lilly at slilly@pittstate.edu with Intramurals if you have questions.

Saturday, August 20

  • Gorilla Geeks Move In Day - 10 AM to 4 PM - The office will be open for students to get their Gorilla Card, add Banana Bucks, and get connected to GUSNET.  Visit the Gorilla Geeks in 109 Whitesitt.
  • BBQ on the Oval - 4:30 PM to 6 PM - Free food and fun hosted by the Greek Leadership Council
  • GloStick Dance - 8 PM to 10 PM - Make some friends, listen to great music, and participate in a glow dance party on the Oval! This event is hosted by Residence Hall Assembly.

Sunday, August 21

  • Pool Party - 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Pittsburg Aquatic Center - Grab your suit and your friends for swimming and pizza.  A shuttle will be running from the Point at the Overman Student Center or there is parking available at the Aquatic Center - sponsored by Student Success Programs, Career Services, Admission, and the Campus Activities Center

Monday, August 22

  • Classes begin

  • Tickets for America's Got Talent Hypnotist Chris Jones (August 30) and Step Afrika! (September 13) are available at the ticket office located in the Weede.  Tickets are free to PSU students with their valid PSU ID prior to the events. Students who obtain tickets at the door will pay $2 for the Hypnotist and $5 for Step Afrika!.
  • Just Ask - 7:45 AM to 2:00 PM at the bronze gorilla near the Oval and Cleveland Plaza - Need to find a building?  Need to figure out what class you're supposed to be going to?  Have other questions?  Stop by the table to chat with some friendly PSU staff - sponsored by Student Success Programs
  • Opening Night - 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lindburg Plaza (Student Center Ballroom rain location) - Relax after your first day of classes with some great activities, snacks, and music by the band DNK - sponsored by Gorilla Activities Board

Monday, August 22 - Thursday, August 25

  • Phi Sigma Kappa Trampolinathon - 10 AM 8/22 to 10 AM 8/25 - For 72 hours Phi Sigma Kappa will host their Trampolinathon on the Oval to raise money for the Special Olympics.

Monday, August 22 - Friday, August 26

  • Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Recruitment Events - Sigma Phi Epsilon will host recruitment events every day the first week of classes. They will begin at 4:30 PM each day. We will meet each day at 101 E. Ford (SigEp house) and have a different event for each night planned. Contact Andrew Schwarzenberger at andrew.schwarzenberger@gmail.com with questions.

Tuesday, August 23 

  • Just Ask - 7:45 AM to 2:00 PM at the bronze gorilla near the Oval and Cleveland Plaza - Need to find a building?  Need to figure out what class you're supposed to be going to?  Have other questions?  Stop by the table to chat with some friendly PSU staff - sponsored by Student Success Programs

  • Hall Council Kick-Off Meeting - 8 PM - Head to your residence hall lobby for the first hall council meeting of the year!

Tuesday, August 23 - Thursday, September 7

  • Sand Volleyball League -  Games will be played in two different leagues (M/W & T/TH). Postseason tournament games will be played M-TH.  Sand Volleyball will take place at the Bicknell Sports Complex.  Contact Steven Lilly with Intramurals at slilly@pittstate.edu if you have questions.

  • 3 vs 3 Outdoor Basketball Double Elimination Tournament - Bicknell Sports Complex - Contact Steven Lilly with Intramurals at slilly@pittstate.edu if you have questions.

Wednesday, August 24

  • Beat the Heat with a Frozen Treat - 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Cleveland Plaza - Get to know some new people and pick up a frozen snack - sponsored by the Office of Student Diversity
  • Interfraternity Council House Tours - 5 PM - Interested in joining a Fraternity?  Come meet the men of IFC and visit all of the chapter houses.  Students will meet in the Campus Activities Center (Overman Student Center) and depart from there.
  • Grocery Carnival - 7 PM to 9:00 PM in the Crimson & Gold Ballroom - Kick off the start of the year with some free groceries - sponsored by Residence Hall Assembly

Thursday, August 25

  • Lip Sync Battle - 8:00 PM in the Overman Student Center UClub - A lively night of music and fun whether you are performing or watching friends - sponsored by Residence Hall Assembly  

Friday, August 26

  • Captain America: Civil War Jungletron Movie Showing - 7 PM - Come enjoy this Friday night flick on the Jungletron in the Stadium - sponsored by Gorilla Activities Board

Monday, August 29

  • Enactus Kick-Off Meeting - 5 PM - Come to the first Enactus meeting in Kelce 224 for free pizza and drinks as they talk to new members about their organization's mission to empower lives around the world through entrepreneurial action!  
  • Homecoming Committee Kick-Off Meeting - 6pm - If you are interested in helping plan and execute homecoming activities come to the first Homecoming Committee meeting of the year in the Meadowlark room of the Overman Student Center.
  • Gorilla Find - 8 PM - Follow the clues and find the prize!  Meet in the Delinger Underground.  This event is sponsored by Residence Hall Assembly.  
  • Gorilla Activities Board Kick-Off Meeting - 8pm - If you are interested in making friends, having fun, and planning campus wide events this group is for you! Join GAB in their first meeting of the semester in the Meadowlark room of the Overman Student Center.

Tuesday, August 30

    • Community Fair - 11:00 AM to 1 PM in the Oval - Meet lots of great businesses and organizations from the Pittsburg community.  This is a great way to find out what the town of Pittsburg has to offer, and there are usually some great freebies!
    • Kelce College of Business Welcome Back Picnic - 11 AM to 1 PM - Join us faculty and staff of the Kelce College of Business) for hot dogs, chips, cookies and water. This event will take place on the Kelce front lawn and is free of charge.  
    • Residence Hall Assembly Kick-Off Meeting - 8 PM - Interested in making a difference in the PSU Housing Community? Come to the first RHA meeting of the year in the Sunflower room of the Overman Student Center.
    • America's Got Talent Hypnotist Chris Jones - 9:00 PM in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts (Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall) - Don't miss the show everyone will be talking about in class - sponsored by Gorilla Activities Board *This event requires a ticket.  Tickets can be obtained in the Weede Ticket Office.  Tickets at the door will cost $2.  

    Wednesday, August 31

    • Career Closet Open House - 10 AM to 2 PM - The Career Closet offers PSU students free gently used interview attire.  Stop by Career Services on the second floor of Horace Mann to learn and see more.
    • Activities Fair - 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the Oval - Come check out Pitt State student organizations to find out how to get involved and find your fit - Sponsored by the Campus Activities Center
    • Diversity BBQ - 11:00 to 1:00 PM on the Oval - Stop by the BBQ happening during the Activities Fair to find out more about Office of Diversity student organizations - sponsored by the Office of Student Diversity
    • Academic Success Workshop:  Build You Own Personal Strategy for a Great Semester - 3:00 PM in room 114 in the Axe Library - Make sure to take advantage of the academic workshops to optimize your success in college - sponsored by Student Success Programs 

    Thursday, September 1

    • Luau on the Lanai: A Resource Fair - 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in front of the Axe Library - Come eat free food, make new friends, and learn about academic resources available to you at PSU - sponsored by Library Services, The Writing Center, & Student Success Programs
    • CAC Community Fair Rainout Date - If the Community Fair is cancelled on Wednesday due to weather it will be held this day at the same time and location.
    • First Football Game - 7 PM Carnie Smith Stadium - Pittsburg State University vs University of Central Missouri

    Friday, September 2

    • Career Services Sophomore Drop By - 10 AM to 1 PM - Cleveland Plaza
