The Pittsburg State University 2012-2013 Solo and Chamber Music Series opens on Friday, Sept. 28, with a performance by the Yale Brass Trio. The trio, accompanied by pianist Mihae Lee, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in McCray Recital Hall.
The Yale Brass Trio was formed at the Yale School of Music during the 2001-2002 academic year. The trio was formed with a mission to expand and explore the possibilities of a brass trio. At the time of the trio’s inception, Scott Hartman, trombone, had recently become part of the Yale faculty, joining Allan Dean, trumpet and William Purvis, horn. These three musicians are all consummate chamber musicians, having played in groups including Empire Brass, The New York Brass Quintet, St. Louis Brass and The New York Woodwind Quintet.
The trio has recently completed a soon-to-be-released recording of all early music arranged by Allan Dean. The group has commissioned two works from the distinguished Yale composer Ezra Laderman, the first for the trio alone and the second for brass trio and piano.
Tickets for the performance are $12 for general admission and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18. PSU students are admitted free. Season tickets and “Any-Four” ticket packages are available at a lower price than individual tickets. Tickets may be purchased at the PSU Ticket Office in the Weede PE Building, 1701 S. Homer, by phone (620-235-4796) or online at www.pittstate.edu/tickets.
