The Southeast Kansas Symphony has a special holiday treat in store for area children on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The symphony will perform its annual Young People’s Concert at 10 a.m. that day in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
Symphony Director Raúl Munguía said more than 800 students from Neosho, Mo., Independence, Kan., and USD 250 in Pittsburg are expected for the free concert. An instrument petting zoo, at which youngsters can have a personal introduction to some of the instruments in the symphony, will precede the concert at 9 a.m. in the Bicknell Center lobby.
As part of the performance, the symphony will screen the soundtrack of the children’s movie, “The Snowman,” based on the award-winning book by Raymond Briggs. The animated short film, which debuted in 1982, was nominated for an Academy Award.
Wednesday’s performance is free and open to the public.
