Students at Pittsburg State University are doing their part to raise awareness of violence against women and money for a local women’s center with two performances of Eve Ensler’s acclaimed play “The Vagina Monologues” to be held this weekend.
The performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom on the second floor of Overman Student Center. Tickets, which cost $5 for students and $10 for the public, will be available at the door, or in advance at the Crisis Resource Center of Southeast Kansas, Inc. (CRC).
Ninety percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the CRC, with the remaining 10 percent going to the national V-Day organization, which uses “The Vagina Monologues” to raise money for charitable women’s organizations.
Students Beth Newhouse, Michelle Rhoades, Julie Jones, Ashley Taylor, Jan Vance, Timi Myers, Liz Darling and Denise Williams will star in the production, which will be directed by student Megan Stoneberger.
The PSU Women’s Studies Club is sponsoring the performances. For more information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
