The 2012-2013 Pittsburg State University Solo and Chamber Series continues at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, with a performance by the Wind Soloists of New York in McCray Hall on the PSU campus.
The Wind Soloists of New York brings together leading wind players from New York City to perform the major works for winds from 4 to 15 players. The repertoire for the ensemble includes piano and wind works by Mozart, Poulenc and Beethoven, the wind serenades and divertimenti by Mozart and Beethoven as well as larger scale works such as Dvorak’s “Serenade for Winds,” Mozart’s “Gran Partita” and Strauss’s “Serenade for Wind Instruments.”
The members of the ensemble are among the most esteemed wind players in the United States, all with extensive performance histories. They have collectively performed with a wide variety of ensembles such as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony, Orchestra of St. Lukes; at festivals such as Ravinia, Spoleto, Lucerne, Tanglewood and Marlboro; and at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
For their Pittsburg performance, the ensemble will be joined by pianist Jeewon Park. An avid chamber musician, Park has performed at prominent festivals throughout the world and has collaborated with members of the Guarneri, Juilliard, Brentano, and Tokyo Quartets.
Tickets for the performance are $12 for general admission and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18. Full-time PSU students are admitted at no charge.
