Pittsburg State University has selected Alicia Goodman, a senior accounting and management major from Olathe, Kan., as the 2017 Outstanding Student Employee of the Year.
Goodman is a student peer adviser in the Kelce Advising Center.
Goodman was selected from 24 students nominated by faculty and staff supervisors for the award.
“Not only did she do the work expected of her, she always asked to do more while motivating her fellow peers and having fun at the same time,” wrote the supervisor who nominated Goodman. “I have worked with students for 29 years, she is a rare jewel and deserves recognition for her amazing work ethic and unlimited talent that she willingly shares with others.”
The Student Employee of the Year recognition is sponsored each year by PSU’s Office of Career Services. Director Mindy Cloninger said the outstanding student workers who are recognized are representatives of the hundreds of students who work across campus.
“Students do valuable work in almost every aspect of the university's daily operation,” Cloninger said. “It’s hard to imagine how the campus would function without their efforts. At the same time, they’re gaining important, real-world work experience that helps prepare them for the jobs they’ll enter after graduation.”
In addition to Goodman, the university also honored Marina Stricklin, a senior from Weir, Kan., as second runner-up; and Lauren Geiger, a senior from Pittsburg, as first runner-up.
