Pittsburg State University will host the fourth annual Midwest Trumpet Festival Oct. 14-15 on the PSU campus.
The festival, under the direction of Todd Hastings, a member of the PSU Music Department faculty, brings together performers, students, teachers, and community members for continuing education, individual and group master classes, and public recitals and concerts.
This year’s guest artists include international trumpet soloist and jazz artist, Byron Stripling; and Ryan Anthony, principal trumpet for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The festival will also include performances by trumpet faculty members from universities across the U.S., along with a concert by the Crowder Jazz Orchestra.
Public concerts include a performance by the Crowder Jazz Orchestra, featuring guest artist Byron Stripling, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14; and a concert by guest artist Ryan Anthony at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. Both concerts will be held in McCray Hall.
In addition to the concerts, Stripling will deliver a public lecture on “’Pops’ and Mr. Gillespie” at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. At 1 p.m. that day, there will be a panel discussion and question-and-answer session on careers in music. Both will be in McCray Hall.
