KRPS airs programs for the holidays

December 06, 2012 12:00AM

Christmas is in the air, literally, for KRPS, 89.9, the public radio station at Pittsburg State University. As the station does each year, KRPS has scheduled a full slate of holiday music and programs through Jan. 1.

“We have nearly 60 holiday programs scheduled for the season,” said Program Director Tim Metcalf. “This isn’t just the shopping mall background noise, but diverse, high quality programs that add to our understanding and enjoyment of the season.”

The programs, Metcalf said, range from holiday storytelling, like “Tinsel Tales,” and “Legends and Lore of Christmas,” to a variety of musical presentations, including Handel’s “Messiah,” the traditional St. Olaf Christmas Festival and even jazz, blues and popular seasonal music.

Holiday programming will conclude on Jan. 1 with “New Year’s Day from Vienna 2013,” and the Boston Baroque Gala “First Day Concert.”
