The Pittsburg State University jazz ensemble and jazz combo will present their final concert of the 2016-17 season at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall of the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

Bob Kehle, director of jazz studies, said the concert is varied and includes something for just about every type of jazz lover, including Dixieland, Basie, Kenton and Metheny tunes.

The Jazz Combo, under the direction of Todd Hastings, will open the concert with the Dixieland classic, “When the Saints go Marching In,” and will follow that with the familiar Wayne Shorter tune, “One by One.”

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Kehle, will then perform the Basie Orchestra classic, “Shinny Stockings,” followed by “Delaware Park North,” a work commissioned by the PSU Jazz Program from Berklee College of Music composer Brian Lewis.

The program includes many other beloved jazz standards, including the Sinatra version of “Night and Day,” featuring vocalist Daniel McDill; and Stan Kenton’s “Norwegian Wood.”

The concert will close with Pat Metheny’s “It’s Just Talk.”
