Pittsburg State University will honor Gorilla families this weekend with a series of Family Day events.
Activities begin Friday with Game Night at Axe Library from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Students and families are invited to enjoy board games and snacks.
On Saturday, Sept. 22, Family Day events begin with a free 5k fun run, beginning at the Bryant Student Health Center. Registration opens at 7:30 p.m. and the run begins at 8 a.m.
From 10-11 a.m., President Steve Scott will host a brunch for students and families in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center. Members of the President’s Council and other university officials, faculty and staff will be in attendance.
The brunch leads into a public question-and-answer session from 11 a.m. until noon in the Governors Room where university officials will answer questions family members may have.
Gibson Dining Hall is offering a discounted meal for visiting families from noon until 1 p.m.
From 1-4 p.m. on Cleveland Plaza, families may participate in a variety of “Family Fun” activities and Dia de la Familia Celebrations, including a family caricature artist, Loteria (a Mexican game of chance with PSU prizes) and a piñata breaking. Campus tours will also be available for visitors at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
GorillaFest begins at 4 p.m. in Gorilla Village, east of Carnie Smith Stadium. The band 33 1/3 will perform in the Gazebo and seven food vendors will offer a variety of tailgate food. Free kids games will run from 5-6:30 p.m. At 5:55, the Pride of the Plains Marching Band and the PSU Spirit Squad will lead a pep rally on the east side of the stadium.
Kickoff for the Gorilla’s game with Lincoln University is at 7 p.m.
