Halloween is near and that means Zombies are getting ready to ambush runners in the woods at the PSU Public Relations and Advertising Club (PRAD) 5k Zombie Run, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 26.
The club will host its second annual 5k Zombie Run at 9 a.m. Oct. 26 at Wilderness Park in Frontenac. Organizers say they hope to double last year’s participation total of 40 runners.
“We’re really excited to host this event again and are looking forward to a bigger turnout,” Marin Berardi, president of PRAD. “It will be the perfect way to get in the Halloween spirit.”
Each runner in the race attaches a flag to his or her clothing at the starting line. Zombies scattered throughout the course try to snatch the flags as the runners pass, thereby “killing” the runner. The first three runners to finish the course with their flags intact will win prizes.
Pre-registration for the race began October 6. Runners can register online, as well as on the Oval the week leading up to the race. The pre-registration fee is $20 and is available until Oct. 21. Registration on the day of the event will be $25. The fee includes a t-shirt, bottle of water, and swag bag. All proceeds for this event, as well as courtesy donations, go toward providing equipment and materials for Department of Communication students enrolled in the public relations and advertising tracks.
“We are really trying to make this event something Pitt State students look forward to every year and, in the process, show the community everything PRAD has to offer,” Berardi said.
The Public Relations and Advertising Club is a student-run organization that provides real-world experience to students by planning, promoting and executing events as well as working with local clients. PRAD meetings are held every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Grubbs Hall Conference Room (212D) and are open to all students and majors.
