Homecoming & Band Day Registration form
2007
Homecoming Parade and
Massed Band Information
Date: October 27th, 2007
Dear Band Director,
Homecoming is a special time of year at Pittsburg State University. This year it is especially exciting because we will be continuing some great traditions started in the past few years. Most notably, by popular demand, we will have the massed band activities during the pre-game so bands can leave earlier for home or stay and watch the game.
Whether you have joined the festivities in the past or have never been on the Pitt State campus, I hope you will consider bringing your band to the 2007. Homecoming Parade and Pre-Game Extravaganza. This year’s Homecoming will be on October 27th with activities including the Homecoming Parade, a great game with the PSU Gorillas facing Ft. Hays State University, a massed band performance during pre-game, and a band director’s luncheon. Entries are due by September 29th, 2007!!! Entry Forms can be faxed, mailed, emailed, or even called in directly to me…. Simply, if you want to participate, let me know by September 29th.
Below is specific information on this years event:
- A complete set of instructions will be sent to those of you who are participating approximately two weeks prior to the event.
- The starting time of the parade is 9:00 a.m. again this year. A list of bands, fall-in points, and reporting times will be sent later. The parade route contains no corners once you have joined the parade on Broadway.
- Parade routines of any kind are not permitted.
- Judges for the bands will be located on the West side of the street at approximately 6th and Broadway. There will be a sign 1/2 block before you reach the judging stand to alert you.
- The schedule for bands participating in the pre-game massed band:
11:00 Massed Band Rehearsal.

1:00 Bands must be in stadium in Uniform.

2:00 Kick-off.
2:00 Bands may stay in end zones to watch game. You may bring blankets to sit on, but please, no lawn-chairs. Bleachers will not be set up this year.
- You will need to provide chaperones to be responsible for the band while you attend the complimentary Bandmaster’s Luncheon.
- Lunch: There are several options for lunch.
a. Hamburgers provided by the Boy Scouts – A flyer with prices and details will be sent to all bands participating in the massed band activities.
b. At all PSU Football games there are several vendors outside the stadium serving a wide variety of foods. Prices vary, but a meal of a hot dog, chips and drink can be had for under $5.
c. Many schools bring their own sack lunches, others choose to order Pizza or Sub Sandwiches and have it delivered.
- The music for the massed band is:
- Life is a Highway – Arr. Paul Murtha (Hal Leonard Publishing)
- On Broadway – Paul Lavender (Hal Leonard) Note: Same arrangement as we did in 2003.
- 1812 Overture – out of print – we will send a set of parts (HAL LEONARD PUBLISHING CORP.)
- Plaques will be awarded to all bands during the football game. Bands will be judged according to school classifications on a rating system of I-Superior, II-Excellent, and III-Good. There will be three caption judges evaluating your performance in the areas of music performance, marching execution and general effect.
- If the parade is rained out, bands participating in the halftime should report to the parking lot northeast of the Stadium to await further instructions. If the show is cancelled (rain, etc.),the plaques will be awarded immediately upon cancellation beneath the West stands.
- Thank you for helping keep PSU’s homecoming a premier event in the 4 state region!
I hope you will accept this invitation to participate in the PSU Homecoming Parade and Pre-game and I am looking forward to meeting and talking with you in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (620) 235-4070.
Sincerely,
