FACILITIES PLANNING REPORT

TO THE

UNIVERSITY STRATEGIC PLANNING COUNCIL

May 1, 2001

INTRODUCTION:
The Facilities Mater Planning meets to establish and monitor the institutions strategic Facilities Masterplan,
oversee and review construction process on new facilities and to prioritize, monitor renovation projects.

This is the first annual report of this committee's activities for the previous year that the chair is aware of.

Therefore, it may be helpful to provide a brief history of the past few years activities prior to focusing on the Facilities Planning activities for the previous year.

HISTORY:
The following is a brief overview of the Facilities Planning activities from May 1997 to May 2000.
May 1997 to May 1998
PROJECT
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Kansas Technology Center
A new building was completed to house all of the technology
programs on campus, included separate contracts for

landscaping and irrigation system.

Bowen Hall - Electrical
The electrical system in Bowen was a complete upgrade.
Grubbs A/C & ADA Upgrade
A new HVAC system was installed in Grubbs and a central
chiller plant was installed to accommodate Grubbs, Yates 

and Axe Library.

Hollenbeck Memorial
A memorial was installed in front on the west end of the
KTC for Bill Hollenbeck.
Hughes Hall - Basement/Classrooms
The basement area was remodel to put in a research
library and teaching classrooms
Kelce - OIS Addition
An additional 3,050 sq. ft. was added to the north west
side of Kelce to house an expanding OIS department.

There was also remodeling done on existing areas in

the OIS department.

Kelce - Partial Roof Replacement
A partial reroofing was done on Kelce
Shirk Hall Roof
A complete new roof system was installed on Shirk
Shirk - University Police
The basement of Shirk Hall was completely gutted and
remodeled especially for the University Police Department
Student Center - Jungle Lounge
Remodeling was done in the basement to make the new
Jungle Lounge
Student Center - Admin Office/Window Replacement
Remodeling was done in the basement for new offices along
with the new window replacement.
Tanner Fire Alarm
New fire alarm system was installed
Whitesitt Hall - Printing Services/QP/Post Office
The south west end on the first floor of Whitesitt Hall was
completely remodeled to house the Postoffice/Printing

Services and Quick Print as one unit.

Whitesitt Hall - Elevator Modifications
An elevator was installed on the south to accommodate 
all floors and ADA requirements.
Dellinger/Gibson - Fire Alarm/Electrical Upgrade
A new fire alarm system and electrical system were 
installed in Dellinger and Gibson.
Capital Improvement requests
KBOR report due Apirl 1st.
Finalized Capital Improvement requests w/5yr plan
KBOR report due July 1st.
Five & 10 year plans as required by K.S.A. 76-6b03
KBOR report due Aug. 1st duplicates July 1st submittal.

KBOR report due Nov. 1st.
Rehabilitation and Repair Projects for Institutions of
Higher Education

May 1998 to May 1999
Hike Bike Trail 
The new Hike/Bike trial from the parking lot from KTC to
the brown lot was done.
Horace Mann - Abatement
The asbestos abatement was done in Horace Mann.
Message Center 
A new message board was installed on the corner of
Broadway and Cleveland.
Softball Fields - Parking Lot
The parking lot over by the Softball fields was put in.
Softball Fields - Concession/Restroom/Bldgs
New concession and restrooms were added to the 
softball fields.
Trout Hall - Electrical Service Replacement
A new electrical service was put in Trout Hall.
Weede Gym Floor
The hardwood floor was installed in the Weede Gym.
Weede Bleacher Repair - East/South
Repairs were done to the east/south bleachers in order for 
them to open and close properly.
Whitesitt Hall - Suites 102,103, 105, 120
These suites were remodeled to accommodate the move
of Academic offices from Russ Hall.
Willard/Mitchell Halls - Asbestos
The asbestos abatement was done in the halls.
Willard/Mitchell Halls - Demolition
The demolition of Mitchell was done.

May 1999 to May 2000
Campus Master Plan
The Campus Master Plan was completed and distributed.
Grounds Maintenance Building
The new Grounds Maintenance Building was built north and
east of Weede.
Horace Mann Renovation
A complete renovation of Horace Mann was done for a 
One-Stop Center for Students.
Hughes Hall - 2nd Floor Classrooms
The new smart classrooms were installed along with the
remodeling of the computer lab.
Kelce Classrooms/ADA
Kelce classrooms were brought up to ADA requirements
and remodeled for current teaching methods.
McCray - Classrooms/ADA
McCray hall classrooms were brought up to ADA along with
the installation of an elevator.
Russ Hall - Roof Replacement/Temp & Perm
A temporary roof was put on Russ till the permanent one
could be installed.
Weede Lockers
Remodeling of the men's/women's lockers in Weede.
Whitesitt Hall - Fire Safety
A new standpipe system was put in Whitesitt Hall.
Whitesitt Hall - PII Walkway
A walkway was built on the south side of Whitesitt Hall
from the second floor to accommodate a fire escape.
Whitesitt Hall - PIII Classrooms/ADA
Classroom renovation and brought up to ADA regulation.
Willard Hall Renovation
A complete renovation of Willard was done to make an
apartment style dorm.

KBOR report due July 1st.
Five & 10 year plans as required by K.S.A. 76-6b03

PREVIOUS YEAR
May 2000 to May 2001
Athletic Fields East of Rouse-Driveways & Parking
New driveways and parking lots were installed over at the
Bicknell Sports Complex.
Axe Library - Abatement
Asbestos abatement was removed from the Axe Library
are was to be remodeled.
Axe Library - Basement/1st Flr
Remodeling was done in the basement to house book
stacks and the Special Collections of the library. The first

floor computer labs were enlarged.

Bell Tower
A new bell tower was installed between Axe Library and
the football field.
Chandler Hall - Renovation
Starting the roof replacement now. Will start interior 
renovation late summer.
Cleveland Plaza
Cleveland had a cul-de-sac installed with a plaza for 
students to cross safely between class changes.
Chemical Storage Building
A new building was built to accommodate Printing, Biology
and Chemistry since the building they were using north of

Russ Hall was demolished in the renovation of Russ.

Gibson Dining - Sewer Replacement
New sever lines were installed during the renovation of
Willard Hall.
Hartman Elevator
A new ADA elevator was installed in Hartman Hall.
Hike/Bike Trail Expansion
An extension from the east side of the brown lot through
the campus and also on the east side of the KTC Building.
McPherson Parking Lot P-II
The second parking lot south of Weede and east of 
McPherson Nursing building was installed.
Mitchell Hall - Roof Replacement
New roof was installed on the remaining part of Mitchell.
Russ Hall Renovation
A complete renovation of all four floors of Russ Hall.
Stadium Expansion/Renovation
A new upper level was added to the east side along with
renovation of the existing area (restrooms, concession 

areas etc.) with new stadium seating on both sides.

Tanner Hall - AC & Electrical Upgrade
AC & Electrical Upgrade will be done in Tanner.
Weede Bleacher Repair - West
Repairs were done to the west bleachers in order for them
to open and close properly.
Weede P. E. Bldg - Wall Repair
Structural repairs were done to the west side of Weede 
and the dance studio.
NOTE:
Not all the projects listed above under the previous year have been completed. Many are under construction
several are out for bid and a few are just starting design stage. Therefore, these projects will extend into next

years report.
