Vacation Leave -- Classified Employees
(6/16/2008)
The Kansas Board of Regents approved the following changes to Classified Vacation Leave Accruals effective Fiscal Year 2009 (pay period starting 6/15/2008).
General Information
Classified employees earn vacation leave based on hours in pay status and years of service each pay period. See also Earnings Codes that Count Towards Leave Accrual (CTLA) Employees change earnings levels effective the first pay period in which their length of service date falls. Vacation leave balances at the end of each pay period are printed on the pay stub for that pay period.
Vacation leave earned by an employee during a pay period shall be available for use on the first day of the following pay period.
If an employee or a "family member" becomes ill while the employee is taking vacation leave, and for all intents and purposes, the employee is deprived of all or a significant portion of the vacation due to the illness, the employee may request to use sick leave instead of vacation leave for some or all of the time the employee or family member was ill. See Sick Leave - Classified Employees for a definition of "family member."
Classified employees may accumulate a maximum of 304 hours of annual leave. The maximum shall be applied each pay period.
Excess vacation leave may not be converted to sick leave.
A classified employee may receive, upon termination from employment or upon moving from a position that is not eligible to earn annual leave, payment for no more than 176 hours of annual leave. At retirement or at termination of employment when retirement eligible, an employee may receive payment for up to 240 hours of annual leave.
