Healthy Summit Workshop

June 27-28, 2008
8:00 – 4:00 pm

Weede Gymnasium

In 2004, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius launched the HealthyKansas initiative to encourage Kansans of all ages to get more physical activity, eat a better diet and avoid tobacco products. The KDHE Web site www.healthykansas.org provides details about the many recognition awards and tools to help Kansans keep healthy.

Pittsburg State University’s Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation and the Kansas Recreation and Parks Association are partnering with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for a very ambitious awareness campaign in 2008. During June, the HealthyKansas message will be delivered to four regional sites in a two-day summit – one of which will be at PSU June 27th and 28th. Friday, June 27th, educators, public sector leaders and health professionals will attend sessions that focus on the following:

* Increasing physical activity levels to at least 30 minutes five days each week

* Eating a healthy, nutritious diet (including five daily servings of fruits and vegetables)

* Avoiding tobacco products, or significantly reducing consumption

Saturday, June 28th includes a community health fair to teach the general population about HealthyKansas. Also attendees will learn about resources available in the Southeast Kansas area that help guide residents toward making informed health choices.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn what’s happening in Southeastern Kansas to improve lifestyle habits, collect resources, network with fellow educators and health professionals and help others improve their physical well being while earning one hour of college credit. MAY BE TAKEN FOR CEU HOURS!

*Note: Students attending for college credit must also register for the Healthy Summit and pay a small fee.
