Overview and Contact Information:

The Division of Continuing Studies serves as the primary liaison between off-campus organizations and the PSU campus. Offering a "one stop shop" for conference services provides groups (particularly those from outside the campus community) the convenience of coordinating their event through a single source.

Meeting and Rec Space:

Pittsburg State University offers a variety of meeting, assembly, and recreation space for conference groups. Within classroom buildings, meeting spaces range from traditional classrooms, seating 20 - 75 people, to lecture halls, seating 100 to 270. The Jack H. Overman Student Center also provides excellent meeting space. The Center's ballroom has banquet seating for 400. Eight conference rooms (each equipped with 27" TV monitor, VCR, white board, and pull down screen) seat 20 to 150 people. The Center also has a room for formal receptions up to 100 people.

In addition to meeting space on campus, Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium & Convention Center offers seating capacity to over 1,500 and banquet facilities for over 600. Breakout rooms are equipped to handle a meeting of six or a conference of 500.

Recreational facilities include the Weede Gymnasium, equipped with basketball and racquetball courts, indoor track and swimming pool. Adjacent to the gym are tennis courts and soccer fields. Conference groups pay a modest fee for the use of these recreational areas.

On-Campus Lodging:

Pittsburg State University Housing offers modern, air conditioned residence hall facilities to provide accommodations for groups of up to 600 people. Located conveniently adjacent to meeting, dining, recreation, and assembly facilities, residence hall lodging offers the perfect setting for various size groups. Whether staying for one evening or several weeks, residence halls are economical and comfortable locations to lodge conference participants.

Current residence hall facilities offer double occupancy (two per room) or single rooms occupancy, depending on the needs of the group and overall space availability. Living areas within each facility are typically defined by a floor or wing. Conference participants residing on a given floor or wing share one large bathroom equipped with many sinks, toilets and showers. Residence hall facilities are available for hosting conferences from approximately the third week in May through the last week of July each year.

Dining Services:

An important part of any successful conference event is food and beverages. Dining services on the Pittsburg State University campus is staffed and operated by the premier dining and food service contractor in the industry, Sodexho. Committed to quality and excellence, Sodexho offers a range of services to include refreshments, catered meals, and daily board plans for conference participants.

Gibson Dining Hall is the source for board plan packages for conference groups. Located adjacent to lodging for conference participants, Gibson Dining Hall offers convenience, value, selection, and great food. A wide range of food format choices, all served in a complete meal (including beverages and desserts), all you care to eat format, are available each and every day.

Full service catering is available for events within the Jack H. Overman Student Center, remotely at other campus locations, and within the Pittsburg community. The catering staff is capable of creating the right menu and atmosphere to make your event a memorable and enjoyable experience for participants. A wide range of choices for every meal are available. Full service meals, buffets, picnics, and cookouts are available to compliment that special conference program.

Audio/Visual Equipment:

A variety of audio-visual equipment is available to accommodate the needs of conference groups. Available equipment includes televisions, video cassette recorder/players, overhead projectors, slide projectors, audio-cassette recorders, LCD/video projectors and internet connections in certain meeting rooms. Internet accessible, networked computer labs are also available. Closed circuit, color video distribution is available in Student Center conference rooms and many classrooms.

Transportation:

Situated in the Southeast corner of Kansas, Pittsburg is strategically located on US Highway 69, in the heart of the four-state region (Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas). At an elevation of 945 feet, the city lies just 5 miles west of the Missouri border, 25 miles north of the Oklahoma border, and 110 miles south of Kansas City.

Just 35 miles north of Interstate 44 and 27 miles from a regional commercial airport (Joplin), the community and university is easily accessible from anywhere in the region as well as the rest of the nation.

Area Attractions:

For visitors to Pittsburg, there is much to see and do in the area. The region is rich in natural resources making recreation and entertainment a cornerstone of our lifestyle.

Pittsburg and the surrounding area offers a variety of outdoor options for all ages, including public swimming pools, tennis courts, over 218 acres of parks, fitness trails, batting cages, 3 golf courses and a children's amusement park.

The Pittsburg Aquatic Center (a completely new facility in 1996) features a zero-depth pool, lazy river, slides and diving boards for all ages as well as a children's pool with slides, fountains and a large sand beach play area.

Four Oaks Golf Course, offers an 18 hole course to challenge all levels of golfing skill. An 18 hole, miniature golf course and batting cages (baseball and softball), are also within the Four Oaks complex.

The Crawford County Historical Museum features unique displays, vintage clothing, photos, coal mining and farming artifacts, printing exhibits and horse-drawn vehicles. Adjacent to the museum is a one-room school house, a coal mining steam shovel and an authentic neighborhood grocery store.
