Spanish Club Spanish Flag

The Spanish Club has been busy. Katie Doherty, president, and Brett Smith performed a demonstration of salsa dancing at the Rumble in the Jungle Showcase in September. Free salsa lessons were offered to students on various dates last fall. Mr. Smith plans to offer lessons again this spring. The Club raised $700 for victims of Katrina by selling 300 dozen donuts. In October, members attended “Deviations” by Julio Matas in Joplin. They also visited Madrid Theater in Kansas City and practiced their salsa and meringue dancing at a club for those under the age of twenty-one. Only Hispanic music was played that night. To celebrate the Día de los Muertos, they had lunch at El Charro. They sold Pizza Hut coupons and had a bake sale to raise funds to purchase Christmas presents for a single mother with three children. The Club is redesigning their logo and plans to sell T-shirts again. This spring they initiated El cafecito de la tarde from 4:00-5:00 p.m. This is a great time to practice Spanish and relax.
