Student Secretary. Position # ENGL 771.
10-20 hours per week as scheduled by the English Department Secretary.
Creates and maintains computer files using WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows
software including: mail merging correspondence and keying exams, syllabi,
labels, and class handouts. Answers the telephone and directs telephone
traffic appropriately. Sorts departmental mail, files and updates records
on students and alumni. Processes bulk mailings. Assists with department
activities including the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series, the English
Conference, the English Festival, and the Emmett Memorial Lecture. Must
be a dependable full-time PSU student capable of doing accurate work.
Must be familiar with PC computers, WordPerfect 6.1, and MS Word 6.0 for
Windows, and other MS Office software. English Department Secretary: Shannon

Student Technical Assistant. Position # ENGL 772.
15-20 hours per week as scheduled by the Director of Computers and Writing.
Assists teachers and students in computer-assisted writing classes on
PC computers using MS Word for Windows and Netscape word processing and
graphic software. Must be a dependable full-time PSU student with GPA
of 3.0 and a grade of B or better in ENGL 101. Knowledge of other MS Office
software applications desirable. Director of Computers and Writing: Dr.
Paul “Skip” Morris.
Writing Center Tutor. Position # ENGL 1030.
Two-fifteen hours per week as scheduled by the Writing Center Director.
Tutors undergraduate and graduate students to help them identify and build/correct
strengths/weaknesses associated with writing assignments and/or concerns
found in composition, research methods, technical and business writing,
creative writing, Writing to Learn classes, resumes, theses, PPST preparation,
and other areas demanding competent writing skills. Also maintains and
organizes materials for tutor resource files and student files, keeps
administrative records, and performs other duties as assigned by the Writing
Center Director. Must be a full-time PSU student with 3.0 GPA or higher
and grade of B or higher in ENGL 101/103 and 102/299. Must be willing
to participate in training sessions and must have excellent competency
in writing, grammar, and verbal command of English. Must have ability
to work with international and native-speaking students in brief one-on-one
sessions covering a wide range of writing concerns. Writing Center Director:

Student Assistant for Writing Across the Curriculum. Position
# ENGL 1738.
10 hours a week, variable times. Assists the WAC Coordinator in updating
the WAC web page, conducting Writing to Learn (WL) workshops and other
communication with University faculty, and tutoring WL students in the
Writing Center. Must have completed the WL series of courses and earned
a grade of B or better in writing courses. Some computer expertise (word
processing in MS Word on PCs) and good communication skills required.
