Timeline
Appraisal period: January 1 through December 31 each year.

Early December: The department chairperson calls for faculty annual reports and specifies the deadline in accordance with the Agreement and provides the Faculty with forms necessary to complete them (including a floppy disk with the template). Using these Guidelines and the points list, faculty members prepare their reports of teaching, scholarly/creative, and service activities for the previous year. Faculty members may seek the advice of the department chairperson in preparing their reports. The reports are submitted to the department chairperson in accordance with the date specified in the Cover Memo (in which the "call" was issued). Faculty will be evaluated solely on the information in their reports; reports submitted after the deadline cannot be considered, unless mutually agreed upon between the faculty member and chair.

Before January:The department chairperson in consultation with departmental faculty prepares departmental goals for the next year.

By mid-February: By a date specified in the Agreement (usually in mid-February), each faculty member prepares a written statement of individual goals that are relevant to departmental goals but not necessarily limited to them.

Or within 30 days: New faculty who enter this process at mid-year prepare their statement of individual goals within 30 days of the date their contract begins.

By March 1: The department chairperson reviews individual goals and returns a final set of goals to each faculty member.

March 1: The Dean of Arts and Sciences and the department chairperson, in consultation, determine the faculty member's performance rating for the previous year and communicate their evaluation to the faculty member by March 1, the date specified in the Agreement.

The department chairperson and the individual faculty member discuss the evaluation. The faculty member has ten class days from receipt of the Performance Appraisal (i.e., evaluation) to append comments, documents, or other materials to the evaluation, to resolve any disagreements about the evaluation, or to file a written grievance of the evaluation in the event that disagreements over the evaluation cannot be resolved by discussion.
