The department secretary is primarily secretary to the department chairperson and is principally responsible for assisting the chairperson in administering departmental programs. Faculty carrying out their duties as directors of departmental academic programs/services or chairs of departmental committees are considered to be acting for the department chairperson.
As time allows, the secretary is available to assist the faculty with their administrative and professional activities according to the following priorities:

The department secretary also supervises an office staff of student workers. The primary purpose of the office staff is to assist full-time faculty with production of their classroom materials, though student workers may perform other tasks as determined and assigned by the department secretary.
Following is a list of guidelines for submitting classroom materials to the student office staff:
- Completion of materials is subject to availability of student workers.
- Materials must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the time needed.
- Materials will be completed in the order received, on a first-come, first-served basis.
