In all courses except ENGL 101, 299, and 301, the instructor determines if a final examination is necessary and appropriate for his/her courses. In the courses named above, the course director or the course committee makes that determination.
In courses for which a final examination is required, the exam must be given during the officially scheduled final examination period during finals week. This includes both comprehensive final exams and exams covering only the concluding section of the course material.
Final exams are not to be given during "dead week," the last week of classes. also, instructors should avoid, when possible, scheduling major papers or tests during dead week. However, if major papers or tests are scheduled during dead week, the assignment must be scheduled and the due date announced in the course syllabus that instructors are required to distribute to students at the beginning of the term.
