Featured Alumna: Carla Davis

Carla Davis is the Managing Editor and Lifestyles columnist for Realty Times in Dallas, Texas.

As Managing Editor, she is in charge of scouting, hiring, and firing freelance writers for the Realty Times Web site. She makes all decisions regarding the content of the news site and does the copyediting for most articles written by over 40 freelance writers. She writes a weekly column geared towards first-time and low-income homebuyers and also a twice monthly article about home decorating and design. She also coordinates the entire script for the Realty Times weekly national TV show, handles most communication with the production studio, and writes a portion of the script.

Davis graduated summa cum laude in May 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Commercial Graphics with an emphasis in Multimedia. During her undergraduate career, she served as vice president and president of French Club and as a student ambassador. Since the fall of 2003, she has been a student in the Master of Arts in English program and hopes to complete her degree soon.

Davis is enjoying her experience as a Realty Times Managing Editor, columnist, and media specialist and is looking forward to her future with the growing company. In addition, she is starting a promising freelance career; over the last several months she has worked as a research assistant and editor for two separate home buying and selling guides for the National Association of Realtors, the largest lobbyist group in the United Statesis. She is also currently editing one real estate book and researching another.

In reflecting on her time at PSU, Davis appreciates the lessons that she learned about herself: "[College] is more how the experience affects you personally-how it helps you grow-than what actually occurs in the classroom."
