Safety

The safety program at Pittsburg State University works in partnership with several local, state, and federal agencies.  The department is also developing an ever increasing list of local partnerships with area businesses.

The safety curriculum is designed to begin during the sophomore/junior year with a choice of two introductory courses.  A student can choose between industrial safety or construction safety.  These programs will introduce students to safety basics and provide completers with an OSHA ten-hour card.

Students who complete the introductory curriculum can elect to take either Construction Safety or General Industry Safety and these courses result in the issuance of an OSHA thirty-hour card.

The next level of certification for students enrolled in safety is the Competent Person Certification (CCP.) Requirements for the CCP program are as follows:

  • Complete one of the courses work that results in an OSHA thirty-hour card, and
  • Satisfactorily complete any two safety courses from the list below. (Satisfactory completion is obtained by achieving a final grade of B or above.)
