You have arrived at the center of gravity for Pittsburg State University, the web pages of the Department of Physics. A degree in physics is sound preparation for a number of technical careers, including various types of engineering, computer applications, and other physical sciences, such as meteorology, in addition to careers in physics teaching or research.

Our experienced faculty stand ready to guide you in student research and development activities, often in collaboration with regional industries and other institutions. These combined efforts contribute to the University’s statewide mission in technology and economic development.

The Department also maintains close relationships with area secondary physics teachers, to help plan relevant coursework and to identify and recruit interested students. We coordinate carefully with other departments that rely heavily on our service courses, particularly in the Colleges of Education and Technology, to insure these courses are effectively meeting their students' needs. Finally, we continue to support in-service K-12 teachers with outreach programs through the Science Education Center, including activities at the planetarium, the astrophysical observatory at Greenbush, and in “Physics Frolics” competitions.

If you would like more information about opportunities for a physics related career, or about the details of our programs, please feel free to contact any of our friendly faculty. Or, you may wish to talk to some of the active members of our local student chapters of the Society of Physics Students or National Science Teachers Association, about exciting field trips and networking opportunities. We are focussed on your future and are determined to give all our students the best preparation in physics that is available anywhere.

Again, we are here to help you achieve academic success.
