Lisa Gerstenkor

Lisa Marie Gerstenkorn currently serves as Adjunct Voice Instructor and teaches Applied Diction at Pittsburg State University. She has also been Adjunct Voice Instructor at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Ms. Gerstenkorn was a semi-finalist in both the Classical and Musical Theatre categories of the West Central NATS competition in 2004 and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, as well as a member of the music fraternity Pi Kappa Lambda.  Her Voice teachers include Dr. Jessie Wright Martin, Brian Woods, Dr. Loraine Sims, and current teacher, Dr. Rebecca Sherburn.

Ms. Gerstenkorn has been a Resident Artist with the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, Ohio and the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, Massachusetts. She has appeared onstage with the Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park in Shawnee, KS and Springfield Regional Opera in Springfield, MO.  Ms. Gerstenkorn was part of the first opera ever performed in Independence, KS, playing the role of Monica in Gian Carlo Menotti's The Medium (2009) with the Independence Community College at the William Inge Theatre.  She will begin her fifth year performing with the Tulsa Opera Chorus in 2012, under the direction of Kostis Protopapas.

Ms. Gerstenkorn holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Pittsburg State University, where she performed the roles of the Witch in PSU Opera's Hansel and Gretel, as Mary Magdalene in PSU Theatre Department's production of Jesus Christ, Superstar, and as a soloist with the PSU Jazz Band.  While studying, she received Outstanding Student Awards for Vocal Studies as well as Graduate Studies.  Now a member of the PSU Music faculty, in addition to teaching Voice and Applied Diction, Ms. Gerstenkorn devotes her time to PSU Opera as Assistant Stage Director.  In 2009, she contributed onstage to their production of Pirates of Penzance, playing the role of Ruth. She will again assist onstage in PSU Opera's upcoming production of The Magic Flute as the 3rd Lady this fall, November 2011. 

Lisa also enjoys lending her time and talents to the Pittsburg Community Theatre where she has served as Vocal Director for the musicals Lucky $tiff and Hairspray.  There she has performed the roles of Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls (2009) and Dominique du Monaco in Lucky $tiff 2010).  Additionally, she enjoys teaching her private Voice Studio, accepting students of all ages. Currently Ms. Gerstenkorn resides in Pittsburg, KS with her husband Brian O'Neill. www.lisagerstenkorn.com
