Lisa Marie Gerstenkorn is the Adjunct Voice Instructor at Pittsburg State University, and also teaches Applied Diction. She has also served as Adjunct Voice Instructor at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Ms. Gerstenkorn was a semi-finalist in both the Classical and Musical Theatre categories of the West Central NATS competition in 2004 and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, as well as a member of the music fraternity Pi Kappa Lambda. Her Voice teachers have included Dr. Jessie Wright Martin, Brian Woods, Dr. Loraine Sims and Dr. Rebecca Sherburn. Currently Ms. Gerstenkorn is studying under the tutelage of Dr. Bill Hall of the American Opera Studio, with whom she frequently performs in Kansas City, MO.
Ms. Gerstenkorn is performing in her sixth season with the Tulsa Opera Chorus under the direction of Kostis Protopapas. In February 2012, she made her solo debut with Tulsa Opera as Sister Lillianne in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking. She has also performed roles as a Young Artist with the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, OH and the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, MA. She has appeared onstage with the Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park in Shawnee, KS, Springfield Regional Opera in Springfield, MO and the Midwest Regional Ballet, in Joplin, MO. Ms. Gerstenkorn was part of the first opera ever performed in Independence, KS, playing the role of Monica in Gian Carlo Menotti's The Medium with the Independence Community College at the William Inge Theatre. Most recently, she was a featured soloist with the Heartland Opera Theatre of Joplin, MO in HOT Scandals!
Ms. Gerstenkorn holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Pittsburg State University, where she performed the roles of the Witch in PSU Opera's Hansel and Gretel, as Mary Magdalene in PSU Theatre Department's production of Jesus Christ, Superstar, and as a soloist with the PSU Jazz Band. While studying, she received Outstanding Student Awards for Vocal Studies as well as Graduate Studies. Now a member of the PSU Music faculty, in addition to teaching Voice and Applied Diction, Ms. Gerstenkorn assists with the PSU Opera program, where she has served as Assistant Director. She performed the role of Ruth in their 2009 production of Pirates of Penzance, and the 2011 production of The Magic Flute as the 3rd Lady. She will again assist onstage as Little Buttercup in PSU Opera’s upcoming production of H.M.S. Pinafore, in February 2013.
Lisa also enjoys lending her time and talents to the Pittsburg Community Theatre where she has performed as a soloist for their variety shows, and as Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls and Dominique du Monaco in Lucky $tiff. She has also been the Vocal Director for the musicals Lucky $tiff and Hairspray, and the Children’s Drama Workshop production of Totally Red! the Musical. Additionally, Ms. Gerstenkorn enjoys teaching her thriving private Voice Studio to students of all ages and levels of experience. She currently resides in Pittsburg, KS with her husband Brian O'Neill.
