The PSU Department of Mathematics offers a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Mathematics (for teaching grades 6 - 12), a Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics and emphasis in Actuarial Science, and a Master of Science in Mathematics. Also available are a minor in teaching mathematics for grades 5 - 8 and a minor in mathematics.

Mission Statement
The Department of Mathematics provides a program that focuses on pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, and actuarial science. The department maintains primary responsibility for all mathematics and statistics courses offered by Pittsburg State University.
The department offers a variety of services to meet the needs of its constituents. The department offers degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in-service education opportunities appropriate for area teachers. At the undergraduate level, a sound, substantial baccalaureate program is provided which is sufficiently varied to meet diverse student needs. The program includes personal academic and career advisement. At the graduate level, a high quality program is provided with excellent mathematical guidance that is student-focused and tailored to the individual's needs.
The department aids in the professional developement of each faculty member by encouraging improvement in teaching, research, and scholarly activity that contributes to pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, and mathematics education.
The department serves its various communities through participation in local, regional, national, and international professional organizations. It also serves the entire university through service courses, consulting, collaboration, and committee work.
